“…when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak…”John 16:13
Jesus is continually speaking to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is constantly listening for the voice of Jesus. The two have given themselves over to one another in such surrender that it is impossible to separate them. Where Jesus is, the Holy Spirit is abiding – where the Spirit is moving, Jesus has already decreed His eternal plan and purpose. The two are one.
He Will Guide You
When speaking to His disciples, He told them that the “Spirit of truth…will guide you into all the truth…” Think on this…Jesus who has declared Himself to be “the Way, the Truth, and the Life” continually speaks to the Holy Spirit. As the Holy Spirit lives in complete, unbroken fellowship with the Son of God, always listening for His voice, He shares in Jesus’ nature. In fact, their bond is so unified and whole, it is impossible to see where one ends and the other begins.
How About Us?
I think Jesus wanted us to catch something. I think He wanted us to see how the Triune God operates…I think He wanted to give us a model.
This Spirit of God, who is constantly giving ear to the voice of Jesus, is the very Spirit who is dwelling within each and every child of God. As He dwells in us, He listens for the voice of Jesus. Isn’t that something? Someone who listens for the voice of Jesus lives in you…
What would happen if we started asking this Spirit of Truth to reveal to us the things that Jesus is speaking to Him? What if we followed the example we have been given and like the Holy Spirit and Jesus, started giving ear to the Spirit of God dwelling within us? Jesus has promised – the Spirit will disclose everything to us (John 16:14).
Ask for His Voice
We have been given a great privilege – If we ask, we can hear the voice of God.
Let’s get alone with Jesus and see what the Spirit is speaking to us.
(P.S. Don’t forget…your bible is the word of God in print…when you read it, you are reading the words of God – you are hearing His voice.)
