It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.John 6:63
It is 2020, and I am jumping out of my chair! I have such anticipation for how I will see Jesus move this year. I know He is faithful and true and that this year we will see a greater revelation of His goodness than last year – I know it! My hope is in Him, go Jesus!
I am overwhelmed by this idea – Jesus is our “Life-Giver.” While walking outside of Capernaum, Jesus gave a glorious revelation to His disciples; the Spirit of God gives life, our flesh is of no benefit…for anything!
Seriously, for anything! The Greek is abundantly clear here – the flesh is unprofitable, unbecoming, and unhelpful. He contrasts that truth with a surpassing reality – the Spirit of God empowers men and women with the divine nature of God in order to animate their physical bodies for the purposes of God.
Jesus is literally giving His life away to anyone who would receive it. He is the “Life-Giver!”
A Firm Resolution
This new year, by the grace that comes through the indwelling Spirit of God, I am firmly resolving to fix my eyes ahead, fix my eyes on Jesus, and receive life from Him. Forget looking to the past – my energy, hope, and destiny lie ahead in the face of Jesus. Everything I need, and if I am believing in the hope of the gospel, everything I really want is found in King Jesus!
