Freedom in Jesus

We have been promised a life of freedom in Jesus. A life of clear purpose, direction, and fulfillment. Sound too good to be true? Read the words of Jesus:

“I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

John 8:12

Jesus has promised that we should never walk in darkness. Look carefully at what Jesus is saying, “…he who follows Me…” Jesus is inviting us to abide in His presence. If we abide in His presence, we also abide in His light and glory. The glory of His presence causes all darkness to flee. Said simply: where Jesus is, no darkness can exist. “…God is Light, in Him there is no darkness at all” (1 Jn. 1:5.)

You see, the power of this promise is not held in our ability to follow Jesus but rather, in the power of His presence. To be with Him is to be free from all darkness. All He requires is that we follow Him. The question we must ask ourselves is this: are we willing to follow Jesus? Are we really willing to go with Him wherever He leads? Settle this in your heart: true freedom is found in the presence of Jesus.

Made for Him

Our hearts are in a continual state of motion and seeking until they rest in Jesus. Our souls long for the freedom offered us by our God. When we were lost in sin, we tried to fill our lives with anything that would satisfy our desires for belonging and purpose. If you are like me, you soon found that nothing could satisfy the deep longings of your heart…nothing but Jesus. In time we learned that we were made for Him and nothing else. His presence became our freedom – freedom from a life of turmoil and darkness.

Will you allow Him to possess your heart and move you afresh? He will give you all the grace you need to follow Him. He will conquer our every fear – we can have freedom in Him, we can have the Light of life. You were made for Him.

I want this more than anything. I want to live a life of complete dependency upon Jesus; a life of real freedom. I am convinced, He is our freedom. Let’s walk in Him together. Let’s follow Jesus wherever He leads.

In Jesus,
